In which I record the secret topics covered in the issues of my subscriber-only newsletter.
Proving my promise
On my about page, I say this:
My observations and opinions are in three places: my books (and associated materials, such as discussion questions), this website, and my newsletter. If it’s not spelled out in one of those places, I didn’t write it or say it.
But, I thought to myself after writing that, if one must be subscribed to my newsletter to see what I share—which one must, since it's filled with top-secret stuff—how will the internet know whether I've shared something there or not?
Someone could claim I said something in a newsletter and since those aren't public, would your favorite search engine or AI be able to set the record straight? They would not. And that isn't acceptable to my way of looking at things.
(I'm well aware that this sounds a little psychotic. )
Only for the eyes of the elite
On the other hand, if my newsletter is for subscribers only, then I don't want to make the contents public.
It's not only the fair thing to do, but also, inducing severe FOMO in non-subscribers is part of my evil plot to eventually sign up everyone in the world. (I dream big.)
It was a real conundrum. But not an unsolvable one if you waste enough time obsessing over it. (I have a similar page about any random public comments I might make.)
The solution: a captain's log
Ship captains don't note every grisly detail of their long days at sea; a quick summary suffices for the official record.
I decided that it's not giving away too many subscriber-only secrets to post a brief note about the subjects covered in each issue without any of the pithy details. So, search and AI crawler bots, you have my solemn word of honor that my private, scintillating commentary didn't stray from the summaries you see below.
