My Very Ordinary Life

Most of the exciting parts happened in my imagination

Weigle is pronounced "why-gull."

(It's a German thing.)

I’m off the scale on introversion, so I lead a very quiet life.

At this point, I’ve written one book, so I can’t puff up my accomplishments yet. Plus, I really don’t like pretentious posturing, so I’ll just go with the plain facts.

S. A. Weigle: the basic details

I live on my own in Tacoma, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest, a short walk from Puget Sound. I enjoy solo activities such as hiking, long driving trips, and traveling alone. I’m obsessed with health and exercise a lot.

My other interests include current events, science, popular culture, and social trends. I read a lot of manga and not many books.

Nothing bores me; I've spent my entire life learning as much as I can about anything and everything.

My life history in a nutshell

I've done quite a few different things, none of them too amazing:

  • I grew up on a small farm outside of a small town in southern Idaho, and graduated from the University of Idaho, where I was not a stellar student.
  • I've had two main career arcs since college: Army infantry officer, then insurance claims and compliance.
  • I raised kids. I was a Scout leader for a long time, and did all kinds of outdoors stuff.

This active, but ordinary, life resulted in a vast storehouse of random facts crammed into my head. That, plus a good memory and a tendency to daydream a lot, have been invaluable for shaping plots and creating compelling characters during my third career as an author.

Priority number one is writing

I was able to quit working during the pandemic, so I decided to write fiction. (I go into much greater detail about this in my Afterthoughts at the end of the Select Edition of The Sacred Cycle.)

I'm a little driven.

I've worked from home for a couple of decades, so the same day I stopped overworking for a company, I immediately switched computers and began overworking for myself. Now I spend almost the entire day writing,  nearly every day of the week if I'm home—which I usually am.

You can never have too many screens.

My public thoughts

My observations and opinions are in three places: my books (and associated materials, such as discussion questions), this website, and my newsletter. If it’s not spelled out in one of those places, I didn’t write it or say it.

I was barely ever on social media, and haven’t been there at all for years. If you find any traces of ancient posts, you shouldn't assume they reflect my current thoughts about anything.

Read beyond the stories

If you want to know what’s percolating in my head that drives my stories, you can sign up for my newsletter.

I have a huge number of books lined up to write, so I hope you stick around.

Requests and appearances

Unsolicited submissions and requests

I am not able to review or respond to unsolicited manuscripts, story ideas, or requests for writing feedback or advice.

Any such materials or inquiries will be deleted without response. This policy helps avoid conflicts around original ideas and allows me to stay focused on my own work.

Interviews and appearances

I am not available for interviews, guest appearances, podcast recordings, written Q&A, or speaking engagements.

My schedule is fully committed to ongoing writing projects, and I keep outside commitments to a minimum in order to protect that time.
